YEARS REFLECTION:

January to me is always a month of reflection, and I start the month in a state of gratitude for the incredible moments of the passing year. 2019 at Izzy Loops has been a year of excitement, development and accomplishment, and I couldn’t be prouder of the Izzy Loops family! We have overseen over 40 Annie Sloan workshops, taken our candles to wholesale and even brought on a new member of the team, our amazing Abi! Alongside all this we have managed to develop our website to be stronger than ever and also launch the new jewellery collection.
This year has also been one of great significance on a personal level, travelling to Asia, getting engaged and seeing our puppy grow into our full sized family member!
Sadly, we will be entering the new year without the fabulous Laura who has been at Izzy Loops for four years, as she will be pursing a career in design, we wish her all the best in the future!
To wish all our customers a fabulous January, here is a step by step guide to make-over that sad-looking chest of drawers which is in need of a dose of love!

BEFORE
STEP 1:

Minimal prep is required before the paint stage but we recommend cleaning the item with soapy water beforehand. We suggest avoiding bleach products/ harsh chemicals. The paint is versatile and can be applied over varnish/ gloss and surfaces other than wood such as leather, glass and fabric.

Hints and tips: why not and transform a lampshade or other fabric item?

STEP 2:

Once you’ve chosen your colour, open the tin, and stir well, adding 10% water, this encourages a smooth finish. Using one of the pure bristle Annie Sloan brushes, layer on the paint, moving the brush in all directions. Leave the item for 20-30 minutes to dry, before applying a second coat.

Hints and tips: To create a thicker texture and finish, leave the lid off the paint over night to thicken.
STEP 3:

Once your paint is dry, you can apply a second layer but this is optional.

Hints and tips: Give your furniture a good check over after you have applied your final coat, as you may have missed some corners or details. Use a smaller brush to get into those pesky areas!

STEP 4:

After all the paint is dry waxing is the next step, using the white wax apply a cover over all the surfaces. I tend to leave the wax for five minutes to soak in before wiping away the excess .

Hints and tips: Use an old pillow case/ bed sheet (lint free) to wipe away excess wax.

STEP 5:

After removing excess white wax, take the Annie Sloan clear wax and apply another layer, then repeat wiping stage. The wax has a matt - satin finish. This leaves you with your item gorgeously transformed!

Hints and tips: If you would like your furniture to have more of a shine to it, be sure to give it a good buff after your initial application.
